Up to the point of receiving the SIG we had been equipped with the same semi-automatic rifle and S.M.G. that Legionnaires had used in Indochina and Algeria in the 1950's and 1960's |

Territoire Francais des Afars et des Issas 1st Day Cover 1974 Djibouti became independant from France in 1977, only three years before I arrived there. The Afars and the Issas are the two ethnic tribes which shared the territory before independance. Before and after 1977 there were several tribal conflicts in the region between the two groups |
