OFFICIAL LEGION SITES/CONTACTS

No better place to get your information about enlistment in the Foreign Legion than straight from the horse's mouth. A fully comprehensive site with French, English, Spanish, and Portugese language translations available.

The website for the parent organization which oversees all the various Foreign Legion veteran's associations worldwide. A highly informative French language site for anciens.

The official site of the Foreign Legion's famed airborne regiment - the 2eme R.E.P. This French language website highlights both the history and present day exploits of the Legionnaire Paratrooper.

Created in 1947, and after almost 60 years in print, the Legion's official magazine "Kepi Blanc" now has it's own website. This very interesting, informative, and nicely presented site features "Kepi Blanc" magazine covers from each month and year since it's inception. Other topics such as Legion history, the Legion museum at Aubagne ( 1 R.E.), the Battle Of Camerone, and the magazine's own history are included, as well as subscription information and links to other Legion sites. At this time there is only a French version available, but under construction are English, German, and Spanish versions as well. Definitely worth a visit for anyone wanting to find out more about life inside the Foreign Legion.

ASSOCIATION DES ANCIENS LEGIONNAIRE PARACHUTISTES ( A.A.L.P.)

There is no link here, only a regular mail address and telephone number. For any correspondance the safest bet would be to write in French. The contact information for the Foreign Legion Paratrooper Veteran's Association is:

SOME NICE UNOFFICIAL LEGION WEBSITES

One of the very best Legion websites out there. A superb effort created by two Canadians and an American, all veterans of the Foreign Legion ( I actually served with two of these fellows in the 2eme R.E.P. ). The site has it all, including a very thoughtful section in which any ancien Legionnaire can have his own personal page, highlighting his service record and achievements in the Legion. Text available in both French and English versions. Truly a job well done, and well worth a look!

Another wonderfully in-depth website, dedicated to the history of the Foreign Legion's airborne regiments, but with a vast amount of other information on the Legion as well. This is a site based out of Belgium, with one of the co-creators being another former comrade-in-arms of mine from the 2eme R.E.P. A French language website, but any email queries can be made in either French, Belgian, German, Dutch, or English.

This is another wonderfully constructed website, created by a former high-ranking Legion officer. It is especially valuable in answering questions, providing information, and serving the needs of former and active Legionnaires (as well as for those thinking of joining). French language only.

This is a website definitely worth having a look at.  Paris firefighter, war correspondant, and artist, Sergio Ostroverhy has created a virtual forum for displaying his allegorical tableaus of life in the French Foreign Legion. The artwork is stunning, not only those paintings portraying the Legion's 6eme R.E.G. ( the Regiment of Combat Engineers ), but the additional sketches and paintings of various other French Military Units, Paris Firefighters, and individuals. There is even a video section where one may view seven separate short presentations about the different companies that make up the 6eme R.E.G. A truly outstanding artistic tribute to the spirit of the Foreign Legion. This is an English language website.

This is the offical site, sanctioned and endorsed by the Dien Bien Phu Veteran's Association, commemorating the keystone battle of Dien Bien Phu, French Indochina  (Vietnam), which started on May 7, 1954 and lasted for 170 days. The site explores the heroic and tragic circumstances surrounding the battle and eventual defeat of the French Garrison, which lead directly to the French withdrawal from Vietnam, and precipitated the American involvement in Vietnam for the next 20 years. This is also the story of the courage and devotion to duty exemplified by the individual soldiers on both sides of the battle, and especially that of the Legionnaires involved in the defense of Dien Bien Phu, who made up 70% of the total French force of 12,000. This is by far one of the best websites you will ever find, dealing with any war, from any period in history. There are English, French, German, and Spanish versions of the text available on the site. An outstanding piece of historical research.

I have included this website, even though it doesn't focus specifically on the Foreign Legion ( though there is Legion content ). The site was created by a former Belgian Para-Commando, to provide a place where any Airborne/Special Forces soldier, from any country in the world, could highlight his own personal experience as part of an elite military group. There are countless photos and numerous links to other sites worldwide. Definitely worth a visit for anyone interested in an in-depth look at the world of the Paratrooper, Airborne/Special Forces history, or military history in general. Overall, this is a great website, and Eddy continually updates and adds to it's pages.
